The TEC1-12705 Thermoelectric Cooler 5A Peltier Module is a practical application of the Peltier Thermoelectric Effect. This module, measuring 40mmx40mm, contains 127 semiconductor couples that effectively cool and heat, reaching temperatures up to 80°C.
Thermoelectric coolers, also known as TEC or Peltier modules, utilize a temperature differential between their sides. One side becomes hot, while the other becomes cool, allowing for both heating and cooling applications. Moreover, this temperature differential can be harnessed to generate electricity.
To ensure optimal performance, it is crucial to dissipate the heat from the hot side. Utilizing a heat sink or other heat-dissipating device is recommended. For instance, an old computer CPU heatsink can effectively draw heat away from the hot side. Without proper heat dissipation, the Peltier module will reach a thermal equilibrium and cease functioning.
TECs find wide application in various industrial areas such as computer CPUs, CCDs, portable refrigerators, and medical instruments. They function as small heat pumps, transferring heat from one side of the module to the other. The modules are also known by alternative names such as thermoelectric cooling modules, Peltier modules, and thermoelectric cooling modules.
